Princess Leonor began her 3-year military training on August 17th by enrolling in the General Military Academy of Zaragoza.
Queen Letizia longs to reunite with her eldest daughter, so one key date is circled on her calendar.
Princess Leonor in the army
Leonor’s send-off marked an emotional moment for the Spanish royal family. Her sister Sofia and mother shared tight embraces, while King Felipe offered wise advice.
After signing the academy’s Book of Honor, Leonor’s first photos in military garb were taken. She will undergo an initial two-week phase of adaptation with fellow cadets.
According to Spain’s Ministry of Defense, cadets will take assessment tests from August 31-September 1 before the course officially commences.
The following ten days involve basic training and military instruction. This initiates Leonor’s journey before her next major military milestone.
Saber ceremony
A significant event comes on September 19th – the ceremonial saber presentation marking cadets’ official title attainment.
For Leonor, this will denote her status as a military academy cadet. A senior cadet will present the saber to the King’s daughter.
Flag swearing
But likely the most emotional day for Leonor comes on October 7th with the symbolic flag swearing-in.
Cadets pledge loyalty by kissing the national flag, vowing to defend Spain with their lives.
Queen Letizia to reunite with Leonor
The October 7th ceremony carries such importance that King Felipe and Queen Letizia will attend to witness Leonor’s meaningful moment.
This event will finally allow Letizia to embrace her daughter for the first time in months. Leonor’s sister Sofia will likely remain in Wales for school.
