Leaked details of contract Queen Letizia had to sign in order to marry Felipe

Queen Letizia had to sign a controversial agreement to marry then King Felipe.

Although no one objected to the relationship, her history as a divorcee raised some concerns.

The prenuptial agreement was a lengthy document of more than 40 pages.

What does Queen Letizia’s Prenuptial Agreement say?

Felipe and Letizia were married on May 22, 2004 after a property settlement.

Before the wedding, however, Letizia also had to deal with a prenuptial agreement that detailed what would happen to her in the event of a divorce from King Felipe.

In the event of a divorce, Queen Letizia would receive a large sum of money that, although not specified in the document, would allow her to live comfortably for the rest of her life.

In addition, she would have a summer house and a winter house with all the comforts.

However, one of the most controversial points of the agreement was that Letizia had to give up full custody of her children even before they were born.

This meant that in the event of a divorce, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia would remain at the Zarzuela Palace with their father.

On the other hand, if the divorce is final, Letizia would lose her title of Queen, but if it is only a separation of the bodies, she will be able to keep her position and continue to be treated as “Royal Highness”.

Another detail that is not clear in the prenuptial agreement is what would happen to the gifts that Letizia has received during her years as monarch.

Fortunately, none of these points have had to be enforced so far, as the royals seem to be very much in love.

The Spanish press points out that the couple even have agreements to keep their love alive. For example, they try to go out together at least once a week, and each is free to go out with friends.
