Why has Queen Letizia changed her footwear preferences?

Queen Letizia’s elegance and sophistication are unquestionable, but so is her concern for comfort.

After years of wearing high-heeled shoes, the monarch has had to adapt to her new reality, facing problems such as metatarsalgia and Morton’s neuroma in her feet.

Now, Letizia opts for comfortable, low-heeled models, which allow her to maintain her signature style without sacrificing her well-being.

During her time as Princess of Asturias and, later, as Queen of Spain, Letizia demonstrated her taste for high-heeled shoes.

However, with the passage of time, she has been forced to give them up due to her foot ailments.

The Queen herself has confessed that she suffers from metatarsalgia in both feet, as well as Morton’s neuroma in the left one, which makes it very uncomfortable for her to wear shoes with high heels.

Metatarsalgia is a condition that causes pain and inflammation in the ball of the foot (metatarsal).

It can occur when participating in activities such as running or jumping.

In addition, there are other causes, such as foot deformities and shoes that are too tight or heels that are too high.

    Symptoms of metatarsalgia may include:

    • Severe, continuous or intense pain in the ball of the foot, the part of the sole just behind the toes.
    • Pain that gets worse when you stand, run, bend your foot or walk, especially barefoot on a hard surface, and gets better when you rest.
    • Sharp or stabbing pain, numbness or tingling in the toes.

Morton’s neuroma is a thickening of the tissue around one of the nerves in the toes.

This can cause a sharp burning pain in the ball of the foot. It may cause itching, burning or numbness in the affected toes.

For that reason, she now often opts for comfortable, low-heeled models, such as slingbacks and pumps, which allow her to maintain her elegant style without sacrificing her well-being.

One of Letizia’s favorite models are the slingbacks of the Magrit brand, which she has already worn on several occasions, such as on Armed Forces Day 2023 and at the presentation of the Medals of Fine Arts held in Cadiz recently.

Another of her favorite models are the low-heeled heeled pumps by Isabel Abdo.

The Queen chose this design, called Carrie, for such an important occasion as her parade on the blue carpet of the Campoamor theater on the occasion of the Princess of Asturias Awards 2022.

In fact, she has this model in different colors, such as nude and navy blue.

The Queen has also opted for Carolina Herrera designs, such as the pale pink model she wore during a visit to Gandía.

Letizia has this same model in different colors and materials, both with higher and lower heels.

Other brands that have gained prominence in the queen’s shoe rack are the black slingbacks by Massimo Dutti, ideal to combine with everything.

Her shoemaker will also have some black slingbacks to combine with everything, such as these Massimo Dutti ones, which leave the entire heel uncovered. They must be very comfortable, as the Queen chooses them regularly.

Another brand is PINKCHIC Guagua, with the burgundy model called Daniela, which has a new last that stylizes without sacrificing comfort.

In short, Queen Letizia has found in comfortable shoes a balanced way between elegance and well-being.

A strategy that allows her to look impeccable in all her official engagements.
