During their recent state visit to the Netherlands, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia let us glimpse, through their body language, the close relationship between Queen Letizia and her Dutch counterpart, Máxima.

From the first official meetings to the gala dinners, every gesture and look shared between the two monarchs revealed a deep connection and a unique complicity.

At the official welcome in Amsterdam’s Dam Square, the King and Queen’s gestures already evidenced the excellent bond between the Royal Houses of Spain and the Netherlands.

However, it was a video recorded by a Dutch journalist that revealed the true nature of the relationship between Letizia and Máxima.

In it, they are seen chatting animatedly while their husbands review the troops.

According to the expert in non-verbal communication, Cristian Salomoni, consulted by the Spanish portal Vanitatis:

“Queen Letizia is talking about something important and that worries her, she is very serious. She gesticulates a lot, which means that she is talking about something that interests her, that she needs to explain well, or something that is important to her”.

The expert assures that the queens are talking about someone and that Letizia makes a revealing gesture to end the conversation, “a kind of ‘that’s the way it is’,” he assures.

In addition, Salomoni highlights the confidence that both queens demonstrate in sharing serious and personal topics in a public context.

“It’s very difficult to see such a sincere conversation in public. We always analyze more protocol acts. Queen Letizia is sincere with Máxima of the Netherlands. She has a loose, natural nonverbal demeanor.”

During the gala dinner, the complicit gestures between Letizia and Máxima multiplied.

When King Willem-Alexander referred to the moment he met his wife, 25 years ago, Letizia looked for Máxima with her eyes and gave her an accomplice wink.

Even King Felipe alluded to that moment in his speech, receiving an affectionate hug from the Dutch monarch.

At the meeting at the Straat Museum, the Kings’ body language gave a glimpse of their current moment in life.

Salomoni highlights one gesture in particular: “That hug around the waist to take some of the family photos? It shows that the relationship is going well”.

Finally, the expert highlights the “very powerful” communication of Queen Letizia, who, despite not being the hostess, “always takes the lead” and is actively involved in the conversations.

This state visit has highlighted the close relationship between Queen Letizia and Máxima, a connection that transcends protocols and is reflected in every gesture and shared look.
