Queen Letizia of Spain, known for her commitment to humanitarian causes, is preparing to embark on a new cooperation mission in June.

On this occasion, her destination will be Guatemala, where she will collaborate with the Spanish Agency for Development Cooperation on important projects.

Since assuming responsibility for international cooperation in 2015, Queen Letizia has maintained an annual itinerary that alternates between Africa and Latin America.

Although her visit last year was to Colombia, this year she has decided to return to Latin America, with her first cooperation visit to Guatemala.

What will Queen Letizia be doing in Guatemala?

During her stay in the Latin American country, Queen Letizia is expected to focus on critical issues such as access to clean water, child nutrition and the fight against gender-based violence.

This trip is also special because it coincides with the tenth anniversary of the proclamation of her husband, King Felipe VI, and Guatemala was the last country visited by Queen Sofia on a similar mission in March 2014.

Letizia will be received by President Bernardo Arévalo and his wife, Lucrecia Peinado, with whom she already met during her official visit to Spain in January of this year, where they were entertained with a lunch at the Royal Palace.

How many cooperation trips has Queen Letizia made?

Over the years, Queen Letizia has made several cooperation trips, starting with Honduras and El Salvador in 2015.

She then went to Senegal in 2017, the Dominican Republic and Haiti in 2018 and Mozambique in 2019.

Even during the pandemic, she continued her humanitarian work in Honduras in 2020 and in Paraguay and Mauritania in subsequent years.

Her ongoing commitment to these initiatives reflects her dedication to improving the lives of communities around the world.
