During her recent visit to Nigeria, Meghan Markle found a touching way to honor Princess Diana.

At a reception for military families in Abuja on May 11, the Duchess of Sussex, 42, wore a sentimental necklace gifted by Prince Harry.

The delicate diamond cross necklace, once owned by Princess Diana, sparkled on Meghan’s neck, a heartfelt gesture from her husband.

Meghan frequently honors Harry’s late mother through her fashion choices.

She treasures several pieces from Princess Diana’s collection, like butterfly earrings and an aquamarine ring.

Notably, Prince Harry incorporated two diamonds from Diana’s personal collection into Meghan’s engagement ring in 2017.

Following the footsteps of Harry’s parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, who visited Nigeria in 1990, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex embarked on their Nigerian journey.

Meghan subtly paid homage to Diana on the first day of their trip, wearing a gold collar necklace reminiscent of one Diana wore over 30 years ago.

Meghan paired the cross necklace with a St. Agni white linen dress, accentuating the accessory’s significance.

At the reception held at the Defense Headquarters Officers Mess, Meghan, acknowledged for her Nigerian heritage, received warm applause and compliments.

Abike Dabiri Erewa, chairman of the Nigerian Diaspora, exclaimed, “Princess Meghan is a Nigerian!”

Meghan, who previously shared her Nigerian ancestry, received praise for her beauty, intelligence, and resilience.

The trip holds significance for Harry and Meghan, marking their first international tour since stepping back from their royal duties in 2020.

Their agenda focused on promoting the Invictus Games, initiated by Prince Harry in 2014 to support wounded service personnel through adaptive sports.

Ending their trip in Lagos echoes Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ visit to the city in 1990, adding a poignant touch to Harry and Meghan’s Nigerian journey.
