Kate Middleton captivated the nation with her first appearance in six months on the Buckingham Palace balcony during last weekend’s Trooping the Colour.

Though her presence doesn’t mark a complete return to Royal duties, it certainly uplifted public spirits and highlighted the Royal Family’s unity.

Beyond celebrating the King’s official birthday, the Princess of Wales, elegantly dressed in a recycled monochrome Jenny Packham dress, Jimmy Choo heels, a matching Philip Treacy hat, and a Mulberry clutch, might have been conveying deeper messages through her fashion choices, according to a style expert.

Princess Kate’s Trooping the Colour Style Secrets

Megan Watkins, Head Stylist at online fashion retailer SilkFred, scrutinized the Princess of Wales’s outfit and identified three key elements that could hold special significance.

In an interview with the Express, Watkins suggested that Kate’s selection of British brands for this highly anticipated event might reflect her appreciation for public support.

“Staying true to her classic yet trendy style, Kate appeared in a monochrome Jenny Packham dress, Jimmy Choo pumps, a Philip Treacy wide-brimmed angular hat, and a Mulberry clutch. By consistently championing British brands, she may be signaling her gratitude to the nation during these challenging times. Observant royal followers would note that this isn’t the first time Kate has worn this knee-length Jenny Packham dress—she also donned it during the King’s Coronation weekend last year,” Watkins explained.

Kate’s choice to upcycle her outfit mirrored her daughter, Princess Charlotte, who wore a navy and white dress with white Mary Jane shoes and a white hair bow.

According to Watkins, this coordination might represent “a strong sense of family unity and support,” emphasizing the ongoing familial bond.

Additionally, the Princess’s preference for a black and white ensemble carried significant weight, suggesting a message of hope to the public.

Watkins elaborated, “While the outfit featured black accents, it was predominantly white, a color symbolizing hope, purity, and renewal, possibly hinting at brighter days ahead. Though Kate has always been fond of monochrome styles, her decision to avoid bold summer colors on her first appearance since Christmas was quite poignant. This might indicate she’s not ready to embrace vibrant hues yet, but it also seemed a deliberate choice to ensure the focus remained on the King.”

Watkins further noted, “Kate has an exceptional talent for ‘reading the room’ with her fashion, ensuring every detail is thoughtfully chosen. Her appearance at Trooping the Colour was no exception. The coordination with her children, the repeated wear of a beloved dress, and the black-and-white theme all showcased her enduring love for her family and why she remains our ultimate fashion icon.”
