    What is Behind the Smear Campaign Against Queen Letizia of Spain?

    Since Letizia became Queen of Spain, she has worked hard to build an image of integrity and elegance.

    However, in recent months, this facade has been compromised by a series of revelations that have cast a shadow over her reputation.

    As many citizens began to empathize with her, a hidden past has resurfaced, threatening to undermine her image and prestige as a monarch.

    Queen Letizia’s Defamation Campaign

    It is unclear who is orchestrating this smear campaign against Letizia, but what is certain is that the statements of journalist Jaime del Burgo have added fuel to the fire.

    The ex-husband of Telma Ortiz, Letizia’s sister, has claimed that he and the queen had a clandestine affair for several years, a relationship that was allegedly discovered in 2012, in the midst of a deep crisis in the royal marriage. These accusations have led to Letizia now being seen, by some sectors, as an unfaithful woman.

    Jaime del Burgo claims that he had an affair with Letizia when she was already married to the king.

    A Secret and Controversial Romance

    Jaime del Burgo began to divulge his version of events in early December, although the first messages quickly disappeared. However, at the end of 2023, he came back with more details, stating that his relationship with Letizia had several stages:

    “1) Loving relationship, from 2002 to 2004;
    2) Friends and confidants, from 2004 to 2010;
    3) Loving relationship, lasting and continuous, 2010 and 2011;
    4) As brothers-in-law, from 2012 to 2016,” he wrote on her social media.

    During those years, according to Del Burgo, Letizia and he met in several cities, including New York, Barcelona and London.

    According to the Catalan website, El Nacional, to avoid being recognized, the queen adopted a meticulous disguise before each meeting. She wore blonde wigs and sunglasses to hide her identity, blending in with the crowd without arousing suspicion.

    These measures were designed to ensure that his presence would go unnoticed and avoid any compromising photographic evidence.

    The Photographs that Put the Monarchy in Check

    According to the same Catalan portal, Despite her ingenious attempt to hide herself, Letizia was exposed when the National Intelligence Center (CNI) initiated an investigation by order of Juan Carlos I.

    This investigation produced photographs that, according to close sources, show the queen in disguise as she entered a private residence she shared with Jaime del Burgo.

    These images could be strong evidence of her alleged infidelity, a scandal that could shake the foundations of the Spanish monarchy.

    The portal assures that, aware of the seriousness of the situation, the Royal Household has expressed its firm intention to prevent these photographs from seeing the light of day. For them, protecting the image of the Crown is a non-negotiable priority, and they are willing to take extreme measures to ensure that this scandal does not further damage the reputation of the monarchy.

    In this context, the question remains: who benefits from this smear campaign against Letizia and why? Meanwhile, the Queen remains under public scrutiny, trying to maintain the dignity and stability of an institution that needs her leadership to survive in times of crisis.
