Queen Letizia has an outstanding collection of jewelry that she uses in the most significant events of the Spanish monarchy.
This collection includes pieces that have been inherited from other queens of Spain, as well as others that she has acquired over the years, either as very special gifts or by her own choice.
Although the queen does not consider herself a great lover of ostentatious jewelry, there are some pieces in her jewelry box that she treasures with special affection and that she often wears.
These include ruby and diamond earrings from the prestigious Aldao jewelry store, which have been a regular addition to her attire for many years.
Queen Letizia’s Ruby Earrings
Recently, the queen wore ruby earrings during the celebration of Spain’s National Day, reaffirming her constant preference for this piece.
The story behind the ruby earrings is fascinating. According to reports in the Spanish press, a niece of the designer revealed on social media that the rubies in these jewels originally belonged to the collection of the emeritus Queen Sofia.
Queen Sofia, having the stones in storage, decided to give them to designer Antonia Fernandez-Aldao to create a special piece for her future daughter-in-law and gave them to Letizia when she got engaged in 2003 to the then Prince Felipe.
“These earrings have a significant history. They were a gift from Queen Sofia to then Miss Letizia Ortiz. Queen Sofia had the stones and, together with Letizia and Antonia Fernandez-Aldao, they designed the earrings.
This is a source of pride for Aldao jewelry and a beautiful memory of Aunt Antonia, may she rest in peace,” shared the designer’s niece.
As for her private collection, Queen Letizia has several pairs of earrings with rubies, beyond those of Aldao.
At her official events, she frequently opts for a discreet pair by Gold&Roses, which has also been spotted on Princess Leonor.
In addition, Letizia has other jewelry that have been gifts from both Queen Sofia and former King Juan Carlos, enriching her already remarkable collection.
With each piece she wears, the queen not only flaunts a sense of elegance, but also pays homage to the rich history of the Spanish monarchy.
