On Tuesday, October 22, Queen Maxima of the Netherlands attended the official opening of Avantium’s new commercial factory in Delfzijl. A state-of-the-art facility that marks an important milestone on the road to sustainable alternatives to plastic.
Avantium is pioneering the production of FDCA (furandicarboxylic acid), a crucial component used to create PEF (polyethylene furanoate), a fully plant-based and circular plastic. Unlike traditional petroleum-based plastics, PEF offers a greener, more eco-friendly alternative.
With this new factory, Avantium becomes the first company in the world to produce FDCA and PEF on a large scale, signaling a shift towards a more sustainable future in the plastic industry.
