The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, is preparing to start the year 2025 with unfavorable news, especially regarding his professional career.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had high hopes for their Netflix productions.
However, their only notable success so far has been the series chronicling Harry’s departure from the monarchy.
Prince Harry’s projects with Netflix
Harry’s subsequent projects with Netflix have faced a less favorable fate, with some productions, like Meghan Markle’s “Pearl,” being cancelled before release.
A clear example of this is the series “POLO,” which has performed disappointingly. Despite being launched a few weeks ago, “POLO” failed to position itself in the top 10 lists of the best programs in Great Britain, the United States, or globally, receiving severe criticism from experts, as detailed by Newsweek.
Initial reviews of “POLO,” a five-episode series exploring the world of polo, have been overwhelmingly negative.
Eric Schiffer, president of Reputation Management Consultants, commented to Newsweek: “It’s a pompous portrayal of privilege posing as a documentary. It feels fake. You could almost see an ad, ‘polo: the new cure for insomnia, brought to you by royalty.'”
In a two-star review, The Guardian described “POLO” as “unintentionally hilarious,” noting that “obnoxiously privileged players weep in darkened rooms when they lose.”
The article continued, “It’s a show about privileged people showing us exactly how privileged they are, which means there isn’t a lot of drama to be found.”
The series also received critical reviews in the British newspaper The Times, which noted, “Prince Harry has made a TV show only he would watch.” Critics highlighted that the production lacked the emotional connection that characterizes other successful sports documentaries.
With Netflix’s deal with Prince Harry and Meghan set to expire next year, a Meghan lifestyle show is expected to be the last chance to gain viewership.
Last April, the streaming giant announced that this new project “celebrates the joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining, and friendship.”
However, little news has emerged about the status of this program, which still has no premiere date. This leaves the couple’s future in audiovisual production up in the air.
