A lighthearted moment from Princess Kate’s past has resurfaced on social media, sparking renewed interest in a long-standing rumor.
The story, which has circulated for years, suggests that during her school days, Kate had a picture of Prince William on her bedroom wall.
However, the Princess of Wales addressed this claim directly during an interview years ago—and her response has once again gone viral.
Princess Kate Shuts Down Old Rumor
The clip in question comes from the couple’s 2010 engagement interview with journalist Tom Bradby.
At one point, Bradby brought up the rumor, asking Kate if she had indeed kept an image of William in her room as a teenager.
Before Kate could respond, William playfully interjected, joking that there were not just one but “like ten” photos of him on her wall.
Kate, with her characteristic charm, quickly dismissed the idea, saying, “He wishes.” She then clarified, “No, I had the Levi’s guy on my wall, not a picture of William, sorry.”
This humorous exchange, recently reposted on TikTok, has captivated audiences once more. The video, accompanied by the caption “#PRINCESSCATHERINE || slay queen!”, has garnered over 786,900 views and more than 108,800 likes.
Comments flooded in, with fans admiring Kate’s wit and confidence. One user wrote, “She’s so iconic,” while another remarked, “Listen to how she says sorry. She’s so humble,” other says “She is so cute with out beeing cute.”
Origins of the rumor
The origins of this rumor trace back to Kate’s former housemate, Jessica Hay, who once claimed that the young Kate had a crush on Prince William when he attended Eton College.
Hay asserted that she even had a picture of him displayed in her room. However, royal biographer Robert Jobson, in his book Catherine, the Princess of Wales: A Biography, confirmed that Kate outright denied the claim during her engagement interview.
Interestingly, Jessica Hay later expressed frustration over how her words were interpreted.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, she stated that she had been misquoted and had received no payment for her remarks.
However, journalist Sean Smith, who conducted the interview with Hay, refuted this, asserting that the interview was recorded and accurately quoted.
Regardless of its origin, the rumor has long been put to rest by Kate herself.
