Last Sunday, March 30, the British celebrated Mother’s Day, and things were more interesting than usual, with unexpected twists and turns from California.
Kate Middleton, true to her signature style, congratulated all moms with a rather unique video—no smiling family photos this time.
The Princess of Wales opted for a tribute to Mother Nature. In the video, which looks like a bucolic postcard, we see Kate touching a tree, waves breaking, flowers blooming, and even rain—because of course, it’s the UK.
A curious detail is that the one appearing barefoot with the dogs in the video is Prince William.
Meghan Markle’s Mother’s Day
The real surprise came from Meghan Markle. Five years ago, she packed her bags and left royal life with Prince Harry.
Since her departure from the royals, her visits to the UK have been few and far between. Therefore, no one expected the Duchess of Sussex to have a gesture… so British!

When we all thought Kate would be the sole protagonist, Meghan used her Instagram to share a very simple photo: a lemon tart adorned with orange slices and a little red flower.
Below it was a short but very revealing message: “Our family tradition. Mothering Sunday in the UK.”
What does this mean? Well, on one hand, Meghan reveals that, in her Los Angeles home, they celebrate Mother’s Day in the British style. On the other, she sends a nod to her former country.
An unexpected gesture that shows that, despite the distance and differences, Meghan still has the UK on her radar.
It seems that, for Meghan, Instagram has become her official loudspeaker.
While Kate tried to deliver a different message with her video, stepping away from the traditional family photo, Meghan stole some of the spotlight with her cake.
The British press, of course, has not overlooked the gesture and is already abuzz, commenting on the Duchess’s move.
