Sofía of Borbón By Robert Marquez

Infanta Sofia Is Already Thinking About University: Law and Economics in Focus

    21 April, 2025
What University Career Will Infanta Sofia Study?

The Infanta Sofia is about to close an important stage, that of her time at the UWC Atlantic College in Wales, where she studied the demanding International Baccalaureate.

And although there is still no official announcement, in the corridors of Zarzuela there is already talk of her next steps. The careers that sound with more force would be: Law and Economics.

What university career will the Infanta Sofia study?

The youngest daughter of the King and Queen of Spain is 17 years old and, unlike her sister Leonor, who is following a path marked by military training and institutional duty, Sofia seems to have a little more leeway to decide.

That does not mean that her role is irrelevant. On the contrary: the Royal House seeks to combine her institutional role with her personal identity.

What appeals to the Infanta? For some time now, Sofia has shown interest in social and humanistic subjects.

These subjects, according to sources close to the royal family, fit with what could be her future as a representative of the Crown, without the need to follow a rigid pattern.

Law has historical weight within the family, and is considered a useful training for anyone who must represent an institution such as the monarchy.

But economics also appeals to her. The international perspective, the analysis of social contexts, global challenges… all of that goes very much in line with her training in Wales, sources tell Monarquia Confidencial.

Although Sofia is spontaneous and natural, her character does not seek to outshine Leonor. (Agency)

When talking about Sofia, it is easy to notice that her style is different from her sister’s. More relaxed, more spontaneous. More relaxed, more spontaneous.

This naturalness, far from being a problem, could become a key feature of her public image.

Although there is a general roadmap that the Royal House shares with her, the final decision will be hers.

Where will she study? It is not yet known. Everything points to the United States and the United Kingdom among the options. And it is likely that the choice will be made public when she finishes her time at the boarding school, this summer.
