The Infanta Sofia just turned 18 and, although the big day found her far from home, her parents did not want it to go unnoticed.
From the Royal Household they shared five new photographs of the young girl, taken during her last visit to Madrid at Easter.
Infanta Sofia’s birthday photos
In the images, Sofia appears relaxed, smiling spontaneously, with the Zarzuela garden as a backdrop.
The younger sister of Princess Leonor is wearing a light blue shirt with rolled-up sleeves and navy blue pants, a simple outfit that fits perfectly with her discreet style.
There is something in the way she poses, looking at infinity or sitting on a bench, that conveys that mix of calm and maturity that comes with coming of age.
This little photo shoot was no accident. The idea of her parents was to celebrate in a special way the birthday of their youngest daughter, taking into account that this year they would not be able to hug her in person.
The Infanta is in Wales, at the UWC Atlantic College, preparing her final exams for the International Baccalaureate. She still has a few weeks left before the end of the course.
Sofia’s celebration has been much more intimate than that of her sister Leonor.
When the Princess of Asturias turned 18, the whole country saw her swear the oath of the Constitution and receive the necklace of Carlos III in a ceremony full of solemnity.
There was even a big family party where no one was absent, not even the emeritus King Juan Carlos.
In Sofia’s case, she will have to wait to organize something special. It is likely that once she returns to Spain, the family will have prepared a surprise to celebrate this new stage of her life as she deserves.
