On July 1, 2021, on what would have been Princess Diana’s 60th birthday, a statue was unveiled in her honor in the gardens of Kensington Palace. This work of art contains a symbolism that many are probably unaware of.

The sculpture of Princess Diana is located at one end of the Sunken Garden, where it is said that she walked every morning and engaged in conversations with the gardeners who worked there early in the morning.

What does princess Diana statue look like?

The statue of Lady Diana is more than 2 meters high and is accompanied by two children at her side and a third in the background. The work was made by sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley and commissioned by the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex.

The children included in the sculpture have no identity, they just represent the universality and generational impact of the princess’s work, the royal family explained in a statement. In addition, it was the best way to honor Diana’s special ability to connect with young people as an ambassador for humanitarian causes.

According to reports, Prince William and Prince Harry had been planning this tribute to their mother since 2017 when it was the 20th anniversary of the death of the people’s princess, as she was known.

With this monument, the brothers wanted to convey that love, that special contact that Diana had with children and for whom she did so much in her last years of life.

As a curious note, the third child behind the monument represents the mischievousness of children and how Diana attracted them. It should be noted that Diana’s sculpture is set in her last years of life.
