Princess Leonor has arrived in the Dominican Republic aboard the training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano, marking a new stage in her training as a midshipman.
The ship docked at the port of Punta Torrecilla in Santo Domingo on the morning of May 19, after sailing days earlier from Santa Marta, Colombia.

During this stopover, which will last until May 24, official events are planned to strengthen relations between Spain and the Caribbean country.
Unlike usual, Leonor was seen alone from the conning tower, while her companions posed lined up on the starboard side.
Although it is not the first time that her figure stands out during this voyage, this image suggests a certain reserved prominence.
Shortly after docking, a brief welcoming ceremony took place with an exchange of gun salutes and music performed by both the Dominican Navy band and the ship’s own musicians.
Representatives of the Spanish embassy have confirmed that diplomatic activities will be carried out during the stay.
The stopover in Santo Domingo is the penultimate stop on the transoceanic voyage, before reaching New York in June and, later, returning to Spain.
