Kate Middleton has resumed her official schedule with a significant appearance in Scotland, where she presided over the launching of HMS Glasgow, the British Navy’s newest anti-submarine frigate.
The ceremony took place at the BAE Systems shipyard on the banks of the River Clyde, with the traditional breaking of a bottle of Scotch whisky against the ship’s hull.
The princess, accompanied by Prince William, was close and smiling, in an act that marked another firm step in her return to public life.
Kate Middleton’s nautical style
For the occasion, Kate opted for an elegant nautical style. She wore a navy blue dress with ivory trim by the British firm Suzannah, made of light Italian wool crepe.
The vintage-inspired, classically cut design subtly connected with the maritime setting and paid homage to the central motif of the event. The dress was priced at around $2,700.
The look was carefully thought out. The princess rescued from her dressing room a Philip Treacy headdress that she had already worn in 2022. Made of sinamay, a natural fiber originating from the abaca, it combined navy blue and white on a domed base.
She added nude Gianvito Rossi pumps and a blue Emmy London clutch, completing a sober and sophisticated look.
As a nod to family history and the host country, Kate wore diamond and sapphire earrings that belonged to Princess Diana, as well as her iconic engagement ring.
For the first time she also wore a brooch in the shape of a thistle, Scotland’s national symbol, in a gesture that did not go unnoticed.
