The daughters of King Felipe and Queen Letizia are set to take on a more visible role within the institution, and this summer will mark a new turning point in their journey.
Leonor and Sofia will share the spotlight in a particularly busy week for the Royal Household.
The Bourbon-Ortiz sisters will take part in all the events on the official agenda, starting with the preparations for the Princess of Girona Awards and culminating in the awards ceremony, institutional visits, and meetings with award winners and young people from the Foundation.
The growing prominence of Leonor and Sofia is no coincidence. Since coming of age, the Princess of Asturias has taken on increasing responsibilities, including solo events and her first official trip abroad.
Infanta Sofia, although with a more discreet public presence, has also begun to take part in events without the direct company of her parents. Her upcoming participation in the events in Girona confirms this trend.
In parallel with their institutional agenda, both have already defined their short-term plans.
Sofia, who has just finished high school in Wales, will study Political Science and International Relations at Forward College, a university with campuses in Lisbon, Paris, and Berlin.
Leonor, for her part, will continue her military training at the Air Force Academy in San Javier, Murcia, the last of the three military centers she must attend as future head of state.
After this intense week, the Royal Family will move to Mallorca, as they do every year. The Marivent Palace will once again be the summer meeting place, with Queen Sofia and Irene of Greece as early hosts.
