King Charles offered a rare glimpse into his ongoing health journey this week, sharing a brief update during a visit to Newmarket alongside Queen Camilla.
The monarch, who is currently undergoing treatment following a cancer diagnosis, exchanged words with Lee Harman, a local man and cancer survivor, during a public engagement.
Harman recalled that Charles, now 76, said he was “feeling a lot better” and downplayed the situation as “just one of those things.”
Though the king has chosen to keep the specifics of his illness private—including the type of cancer—he has continued to maintain a public schedule when possible.
Earlier in the year, Charles faced a temporary setback after experiencing side effects from treatment, which led to a brief hospitalization and the cancellation of several royal engagements.
Buckingham Palace described it as a minor bump along the way.
The cancer was discovered after a procedure for an enlarged prostate in January 2024. Doctors identified an unrelated concern, which led to his current treatment regimen.
While Charles has acknowledged that the diagnosis came as a “shock,” he has remained outwardly positive. During public appearances, he has often assured royal watchers that he feels “well” and “not too bad,” offering a reassuring image of resilience in the face of illness.
