Following Princess Beatrice’s 37th birthday, it seems like a good time to discuss the role she will—or rather will not—play under Prince William’s future reign.
Former royal butler Grant Harrold, who worked with King Charles, says that although Beatrice has been gaining presence and responsibilities, he does not see her becoming an official member of the royal family with full duties.
Harrold says Beatrice is well respected within the family, especially by Charles and Camilla, and that although the celebration will be intimate, the king will not miss the opportunity to honor her. “The King will be eager to celebrate Princess Beatrice,” he said.
But that respect does not mean she will be given a more official role. The princess continues her career as a technology strategist, and it does not appear that William wants to change that dynamic.
What is interesting is that Beatrice achieves a balance that many admire, combining her work outside the monarchy with the responsibilities she accepts when required.
Harrold calls her “the Firm’s secret weapon” because of her ability to be a flexible support without losing her independence. In addition, she has managed to diplomatically handle the alleged tensions between William and Harry, maintaining good relations with both.
In short, Beatrice remains a valuable pillar for the family, albeit without the limelight of the royal front line.
