Princess Leonor is about to start a new chapter in her life, and she will do so in San Javier, Murcia.
After spending a family summer between Mallorca and Greece, the heir to the Spanish throne will have to settle into the General Air and Space Academy, where she will begin the final stage of her military training.
As in her previous military training, Leonor will live, study, and train under the same discipline as the rest of her classmates.
After Zaragoza and Marín, where she learned on land and sea—she swore allegiance to the flag and sailed on the ship Juan Sebastián Elcano—now it’s time to look up.
In Murcia, the challenge will be to take to the skies and immerse herself fully in the world of aviation. Her curriculum includes theory, physical training, and flight practice.
There will be no privileges, because as Colonel Luis Felipe González Asenjo, director of the Academy, made clear: “The princess will be treated with the same rigor as the rest.”
This new environment will require effort, but it will also provide her with unique experiences. Life at the AGA is characterized by camaraderie, and that is where Leonor will have to integrate, living with young people who share her same goal: to fly high.
Far from palaces and protocols, her routine will be much more like that of any cadet who dreams of a career in military aviation. And that contrast, I believe, is what will make this stage so transformative for her.
If all goes according to plan, in 2026 she will complete her training after passing through Land, Sea, and now Air, receiving the Grand Cross of Aeronautical Merit from King Felipe VI.
