Leonor of Borbón By Lillian Torres

PHOTOS: Princess Leonor Begins Final Year at Air Force Academy

I don’t know if you feel the same, but every September I get the sense that even the royals have their own version of “back to school.” In Princess Leonor’s case, this return already feels like the final stretch—Spain’s heir to the throne has begun her third and final year of military training in San Javier, this time at the General Air and Space Academy.

The anticipation was intense, and Leonor arrived with that signature blend of shyness and determination.

She was seen in a pristine navy-blue uniform, complete with a peaked cap, white gloves, and her hair neatly tied back, following regulations to the letter.

It may seem like a small gesture, but it actually conveys discipline and respect for the role she holds. And the truth is, she knows that every public appearance becomes symbolic.

Her day starts at 6:30 a.m. After washing up and having breakfast, classes begin at 7:40 and run until 3:00 p.m., with a short mid-morning break. In the afternoon, from 4:00 to 6:00, training and lessons continue, followed by a brief window for studying or mental rest.

Dinner is served at 8:30 p.m., and by 10:30 p.m., absolute silence is enforced. “It’s a strict routine,” they say at the academy. No special privileges. As Academy Director Luis González put it.

Felipe and Letizia didn’t travel to Murcia this time, leaving the spotlight entirely on their daughter. A gesture that speaks volumes—she’s no longer the little girl they once led by the hand, but the future Queen, now walking on her own, through strict schedules, boots, and uniform.
