Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor, and Infanta Sofía made a unique visit during their stay in Mallorca. Away from official events and without media presence, the three visited Casa Esment in Palma to learn firsthand about the work this foundation has been doing since 1962 to support people with intellectual disabilities and their families.
The focus of the visit was the organization’s printing press, a space that for decades has served as a place for training and employment for its users. There, they learned about the printing, binding, and graphic design processes, and discovered the effort behind a project that combines workplace inclusion with an environmental commitment.
Leonor and Sofía’s attitude during this meeting really stood out to me. Beyond touring the facilities, they were eager to hear the workers’ stories, learn about their experiences, and understand how the Esment Foundation has helped them build their careers. This isn’t the first time the sisters have shown interest in the inclusion of people with disabilities, a topic they also addressed in a recent meeting with young people in Madrid.
For her part, Queen Letizia once again demonstrated her commitment to this area, which is linked to her role as Honorary President of the Council of the Royal Board on Disability. Her conversation with the foundation’s leaders and employees reflects a side of the Crown more closely tied to social issues, with visits aimed at highlighting projects that create opportunities.
