Eugenie of York has finally cleared up the small mystery surrounding the arrival of her third daughter. Two weeks after her birth in Lisbon, the princess publicly introduced Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank, accompanying the news with words full of affection.
The little girl was born on August 4, but Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank chose to wait before revealing the name they had chosen.

Who does Adelaide Elizabeth Annina honor?
This is where the name begins to tell its own story. Eugenie explained that it honors three very dear people and also has ties to England and Portugal, two places that are important to the family.
The name Adelaide also seems to hold a special nod to British royalty. The princess had already made this reference at her wedding, when she wore two diamond brooches linked to Queen Adelaide, the wife of William IV.
Elizabeth is easier to identify, as everything indicates that it’s dedicated to her grandmother, Elizabeth II, with whom Eugenie had a very close relationship.
For now, the third name, Annina, holds a touch of mystery. Eugenie has only said that it reflects a personal connection between her and Jack, without yet explaining its meaning.

I think it’s a lovely touch because it keeps a part of the family history just for them. Meanwhile, little Adelaide already has two older siblings, August and Ernest, who, according to her mother, are delighted with their new roles.
“Augie and Ernie are already the best big brothers,” Eugenie wrote when sharing the news.
With Adelaide, the family welcomes a new member and a name steeped in personal and meaning. The girl is the fifth granddaughter of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, and the tenth great-nephew of Charles III.
