    Princess Leonor has already taken another important step in her education. On September 7, she arrived at the Getafe campus of Carlos III University to begin her studies in Political Science, following three years of military training.

    The heiress arrived full of enthusiasm, though it was impossible for her first day to go unnoticed amid the cameras, journalists, and the anticipation of students and staff.

    What did Princess Leonor wear on her first day of college?

    Her look also conveyed her intention to approach this phase of her life with a sense of normalcy. Leonor chose a white sleeveless blouse, wide-leg jeans, and sneakers, paired with a black maxi bag that looks poised to become one of her college staples. She added several pieces of jewelry, including her well-known heart necklace, as well as earrings, rings, bracelets, and a sports watch. For her hair, she chose a braid—a comfortable style that’s one of her favorites.

    The University welcomed her with the presence of Rector Ángel Arias, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs Pilar Otero, and Dean Antonio Descalzo. After the initial introduction, Leonor was scheduled for her first class in legal theory.

    The rector made it clear that the aim is for her time at Carlos III to be as normal as possible, although her arrival showed that achieving this will be quite a challenge.

    And here’s the striking part. The princess can walk into class like any other student, but her surname adds a different dimension to every everyday action.

    Spanish protocol expert María José Gómez Verdú told Lectura that this is a contradiction, noting that academic normality is one thing and media attention is quite another. The institutional welcome makes sense for a future queen, but it will have to be a one-time gesture if the goal is truly for Leonor to have a university experience as close as possible to that of any other young woman.
