Infanta Sofía is about to embark on a new chapter in her discreet yet increasingly prominent institutional journey. On July 8, she will travel to Zaragoza to preside over the awarding of grants from the Ibercaja Foundation’s Docentes Referentes program. The event holds special significance as it marks her debut as the honorary president of this initiative, a role she assumed last February.

The youngest daughter of the King and Queen will be in charge of presenting awards to teachers who stand out for their innovation, leadership, and contributions to their students’ development. The program aims to highlight the role of teachers while also introducing the Infanta to an area that the Royal Family typically supports: the education and training of future generations.

There’s another detail that makes this event even more interesting. It’s possible that Sofía will give a speech during the ceremony. So far, her public appearances have been very limited, so a speech of her own would mark a new step in building her institutional profile before she moves to Paris to continue her university studies.

Although her schedule remains much lighter than that of Princess Leonor, each of the Infanta’s appearances makes it clear that her role within the Spanish royal family is gradually taking shape. In a monarchy with few active members, Sofía is beginning to carve out her place in social and educational spheres—an area that seems to align perfectly with the image the Crown wishes to project of her.
