Princess Diana, throughout her life, had at her disposal an extensive and luxurious collection of jewelry, such as tiaras, diamonds, sapphires, rings and necklaces. After her death, some of these jewels became part of the inheritance of her sons, William and Harry.

25 years after Lady Di’s tragic death, here are some of the most impressive luxury pieces from her jewelry box.

    Sapphire engagement ring

In February 1981, Charles asked Lady Di to marry him, according to the dramatization seen in the series The Crown, the queen offers Diana “a very special box of chocolates”, the box contained a selection of rings from the London jewelry store Garrard, which served the British royal family from 1843 to 2007. Diana chose the sapphire ring that Garrard had for sale from its own collection and did not choose any of the rings already owned by the royal family.

“There are several theories as to why Diana chose that ring: because the color matched her eyes, that it was actually chosen by the queen or that, as Diana herself allegedly said, ‘it was the largest.’ Others argue that it simply reminded her of her mother’s engagement ring,” said Annie Sulzberger, head of documentation for The Crown.

The jewel is made up of a fabulous 18-carat blue sapphire, which is surrounded by 14 small diamonds. Today the piece is worn by the Duchess of Cambridge. The ring was part of the inheritance of Prince Harry, who gave it to his brother William when he became engaged to Kate Middleton in 2011.

This jewel returned to the Queen’s coffers when Diana and Charles divorced. The crown has been worn by Kate Middleton on several occasions, such as on Remembrance Day in 2015 and 2016.
