Princess Leonor and her sister Sofia had a health setback that kept them away from official engagements, on the last date in the framework of the Princess of Asturias Awards.

First it was the Infanta Sofia who did not attend with her family last Saturday, October 29, her visit to Cadavéu, the Exemplary Village 2022. The royal family claimed that she was feeling unwell due to gastroenteritis.

For that day Leonor took all the limelight wearing a sporty look consisting of a fuchsia sweater, cream pants and sneakers. She greeted and chatted with the residents of the Asturian town and was very affectionate with everyone.

She also participated in the planting of a tree and unveiled the plaque that credited the region with this year’s recognition. However, she could not be there to give the speech, which was finally delivered by her mother, Queen Letizia.

“We’ve all had gastroenteritis at one time or another,” the queen said, explaining her daughters’ absence.

“Sofia spent a bad night and Leonor also felt sick when she woke up. She made an effort, but it was not possible. I think that these gastroenteritis in 24-48 hours will pass. Something was wrong with them, I don’t know”. “We have all had gastroenteritis at some time, nothing happens,” said Queen Letizia.

It was known that the royal family, before arriving to Cadavéu, had to make a stop on the way so that Leonor could go to the bathroom of a restaurant. The establishment “Casa Fernando” was the chosen one.

Despite her discomfort, Princess Leonor had the gesture of being photographed at the entrance of the place very smiling with all the employees, customers and the King and Queen.

What caused the gastroenteritis of Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia?

According to several Spanish media, the dinner menu after the Princess of Asturias Awards would have been the trigger for both the Infanta Sofia and Princess Leonor to feel sick to their stomachs.

“The sisters indulged in a feast of olive spherification, anchovy on blue cheese, strawberry gazpacho, shrimp with curry sauce, matachana wrap, cheesecake and spider crab croquettes, something that did not go down well in their stomachs.”

Leonor and Sofia are expected to be in good health to attend next Wednesday, November 2, in the province of Navarra, for the 22nd edition of the Film Festival ‘Ópera Prima’ Ciudad de Tudela.
