Princess Leonor is on the eve of a momentous event, being honoured with distinguished decorations.
The heiress to the Spanish throne, now 18 years old, will be awarded the Medalla de Aragón and the Medalla de las Cortes de Aragón.
These prestigious awards have been bestowed on her following her stay in the region, where she has cultivated the affection of the Aragonese people and demonstrated a deep empathy for their culture and traditions, as reflected in the official decree.
Since entering the General Military Academy in Zaragoza on 17 August 2023, Leonor’s life has undergone a radical transformation.
This change has not only been evident in her preparation to assume the role of Head of State, but also in her personal development.
During these nine months, she has gone through significant moments in her military career: Her first appearance in army uniform.
Her pledge of allegiance to the flag. Her participation in military manoeuvres. Her driver’s licence and, of course, her coming-of-age celebration with her comrades, with whom she has formed unbreakable bonds.
With the conclusion of the first year of her military training on the horizon, Princess Leonor is set to receive a special leave of absence, marking another milestone in her already remarkable career.
Honorary acknowledgements for Princess Leonor
Princess Leonor, daughter of King Felipe and Queen Letizia, has been granted special leave to take part in a series of honorary events in Zaragoza, while her fellow students at the Military Academy prepare for their final exams.
According to Spanish press reports, on 21 May, Leonor will make her first appearance at the Aljafería Palace to receive an award.
She will then visit Zaragoza City Hall to be named Adoptive Daughter of the city and will conclude her visit by receiving the Medal of Aragon.
Although it has not yet been confirmed whether the King and Queen will accompany their daughter to these significant events, Leonor’s presence alone could symbolise her growing role as future heir to the throne.
