Princess Kate, Prince William and their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis, are staying in a historic and cozy home called Adelaide Cottage in the private grounds of Windsor.

It is where Kate will spend the next few weeks following her successful abdominal surgery at the London Clinic, according to the palace.

The couple moved into this home after living at Kensington Palace in apartment 1A, a 20-room residence overlooking Hyde Park.

The family also lived between Kensington and their country home, Anmer Hall, in Sandringham, where they celebrated many Christmases and birthdays.

However, the Prince and Princess of Wales decided to make Adelaide Cottage their permanent home.

According to close sources, the couple wanted to raise their children in a more natural and tranquil environment, away from the media spotlight.

    What is Adelaide Cottage like?

Adelaide Cottage was built in 1831 as a summer retreat for Queen Adelaide, wife of William IV. She first moved in on her birthday, August 13th of that year.

It originally consisted of two main rooms, with additional rooms for the Queen and pages.

After the death of the royal couple, the building fell into disuse until Queen Victoria began to use it for tea.

In 2015, the house was renovated for William and Kate and their children to move in, as the couple wanted a more intimate and family home.

The house currently has four bedrooms and a large garden, making it very different from Kensington Palace.

It also has luxurious details such as a marble fireplace, a ceiling with decorative elements including golden dolphins and ropes from the former royal yacht, HMS Royal George, and a bathroom with views of Windsor Castle.

The property, which is painted pink on the outside, is Grade II listed, which means it is considered to be of great historic and architectural importance and is therefore protected.

Adelaide Cottage is undoubtedly a place full of history and charm, where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children enjoy their daily lives in privacy and comfort.
