An unusual love triangle involves Princess Anna, Andrew Parker Bowles and Queen Camilla. According to stories revolving around the monarchy, Queen Elizabeth II’s daughter had an affair with the one-time husband of the current British consort.
Interest in this story increased after the premiere of The Crown, in the episode of the third season called “Imbroglio” they question the queen’s daughter about this alleged relationship.
Andrew Parker Bowles and Princess Anne
The princess and Andrew met in 1970, when Anne was barely 20 and he was in his 30s. They shared a passion for horses. Andrew was a member of the Prince of Wales polo team and Anne was an expert rider who made it to the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
The two met at social gatherings, gala dinners and balls. According to The Crown, it was at one of these parties that they began spending nights together. However, the relationship did not prosper despite the fact that the families of both knew each other perfectly well.
It is believed that religion was one of the reasons why Andrew and Anna did not formalize the relationship. Parker Bowles was Catholic and the relationship of members of the monarchy with people of other religious beliefs was not well seen.
The duration of the relationship is also not known. In 1973 the two were married. Princess Anne to Captain Mark Phillips and Andrew Parker Bowles to Camilla Shand.
Despite the years and the controversy between Camilla and the then Prince Charles, Andrew kept the good relationship with the royal family. He is the godfather of Zara Phillips, Anne’s daughter and in 2005 he attended his ex-wife’s wedding to Charles.
Both have been captured at various events with royals, such as in the royal box at Ascot.
