With a solemnity not seen in Spain for some time, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia commemorated a decade since their ascension to the throne.
The celebration was attended by their daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia, who took a break from their commitments to be with their parents at this significant event.
Princess Leonor is completing her first year at the Military Academy, while Infanta Sofia appears to already be enjoying her summer vacation at UWC Atlantic College in Wales.
Anniversary of King Felipe’s Proclamation
The tenth anniversary of King Felipe VI’s reign has been marked by a series of events that began near the Royal Palace.
A notable aspect of the initial celebrations was the evident closeness and complicity between the monarchs and their daughters, reflecting a strong family bond. The royal family appeared on the palace balcony to address the gathered citizens.
Subsequently, a lunch was held where King Felipe VI delivered a speech to the guests.
In his words, he emphasized the importance of equality and unity, expressing his desire that ‘we all stand on the same plane, to know each other better and value our contributions more deeply. We thank all the individuals, institutions, and entities from civil society who have joined us in this special anniversary and extend our gratitude for their congratulations.’
Regarding his daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia, King Felipe VI highlighted their role in the future of the monarchy.
‘The Queen and I have received constant support from our daughters,’ he stated, emphasizing the increasing institutional responsibility assumed by the Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofia, who have intensified their presence at official events organized by the National Heritage.
‘It is our wish that this anniversary is also memorable for them. Like other young people their age, they are beginning to experience and understand, with necessary critical thinking and a strong desire to learn, the realities of our society and the complex dynamics of the modern world,’ he added.
These statements reflect the monarch’s gratitude for his wife and daughters’ dedication to the service of the Crown.
Additionally, King Felipe paid tribute to the 19 distinguished citizens with the Order of Civil Merit in a ceremony that took place before the official lunch.
Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia also expressed their gratitude to their parents, actively participating in the celebration.
