Lately, rumors have been swirling about the relationship between King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain.
Some experts think they might get divorced, but whenever they appear in public, they seem happy together.
Could this be a strategy of the royal family to protect the monarchy?
Are Queen Letizia and King Felipe Divorced?
A divorce would be a huge scandal for the Spanish monarchy, making it almost unthinkable.
If they did split up, it might be like King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia, who stopped living together but didn’t announce it publicly.
Pilar Eyre, a well-known journalist, predicted problems in their marriage. She believes the modern-thinking couple might divorce in April 2025, when their younger daughter, Princess Sofia, turns 18.
“I think this marriage is already over,” she said. “We’ll see if they stay together like Juan Carlos and Sofia or decide to live separate lives because they’re still young and it’s the 21st century,” she said.
Back in 2012, there were talks of a crisis between Felipe and Letizia.
People blamed the issues on the monarchy’s troubles at that time, but it turned out to be more personal, like a possible affair.
Jaime del Burgo revealed this big secret that the palace had kept hidden for over a decade.
Divorce rumors are spreading again, but Letizia may not want to go through with it.
Youtuber of the Heart, Maica Vasco, described her as very ambitious, having planned to meet Felipe and become queen.
Now she is the most powerful woman in Spain and doesn’t want to give that up.
Queen Letizia and King Felipe’s divorce agreement
When Felipe and Letizia married in 2004, they signed a prenuptial agreement. David Rocasolano, Letizia’s cousin and a lawyer, made it public.
If they divorced, Letizia would get a lot of money, two houses, and staff, but she would lose custody of their daughters, who would stay at the palace.
This is unacceptable to her. She doesn’t want to lose her daughters or her title as queen. Because of this, the palace has stopped all divorce talks.
According to Eyre, the situation is very tense because Letizia isn’t happy with the original agreement and wants much more.
“Divorce isn’t in the plans of any king,” someone close to the palace said. “Felipe doesn’t want to harm the monarchy, and Letizia likes being queen.”
So, for now, it seems they won’t get divorced, even if they are not really together anymore.
