Princess Diana’s jewelry has always been an object of admiration and controversy, due to the large number of pieces whose whereabouts are still unknown. However, the auction to be held in New York next June has aroused great expectations among royalty lovers.

Royal objects, whether current or historical, have a great fascination among collectors around the world. Often, various objects are auctioned, but the most prized are the jewels.

This is a set of diamonds and pearls that Princess Diana wore in the weeks leading up to her tragic death in 1997. The necklace and earrings, which were designed by Diana herself and manufactured by the prestigious London jeweler Garrard, are part of the so-called ‘Swan Lake Suite’, which the princess wore at a gala at the Royal Albert Hall on June 3, 1997.

Photos of the princess wearing the jewels that day have gone down in history, becoming one of the last public events of the princess before her passing. The set, which included seven South Sea pearls and more than 200 diamonds, was a smash hit at the time and the photos appeared in magazines and newspapers around the world.

Unfortunately, a few days after the gala, Garrard asked for the necklace back to put the finishing touches on the earrings. However, before the jeweler could deliver the completed set to the princess, she passed away.

Nearly two years after her death, the jewelry was sold through Guernsey’s auction house, with part of the proceeds going to the Unicef organization and its efforts to ban landmines. The set was acquired by American tycoon James McIngvale, who sold it a decade later.

Now, the jewelry has come up for auction again, being acquired by a prominent Ukrainian family who has decided to put it up for sale. Part of the proceeds of the auction will go to the reconstruction of the country invaded by Russia. The auction will take place on June 27 at the Pierre Hotel in New York. It should be noted that no estimate of the starting price of the set has been published yet.
