While Spain was left in the dark by an unexpected general blackout, Zarzuela ignited the controversy.
On Monday, April 28, just when the country was trying to deal with stopped elevators, collapsed stations and paralyzed trains, at 00:00 midnight on April 29, the Palace uploaded to its networks some official photos of the Infanta Sofia.
Backlash Over Infanta Sofia’s Birthday Photos
The young girl turned 18 and posed smiling in the royal gardens. The gesture, which seemed innocent, did not go down well.
Criticism did not take long to appear. On X, the network formerly known as Twitter, many users accused the Royal Household of being completely disconnected from what was happening outside the walls of the Zarzuela.
Some spoke of insensitivity, others asked that at least the publication had been postponed. The most repeated comment was simple: “it wasn’t the time.”
From Zarzuela’s entourage, they assure that Sofia’s photos were programmed from before and were not part of any conscious decision in the midst of the chaos.
Even so, until the closing of this note, there has not been a single official comment on the matter. No public explanation.
Only the publication in networks, with a brief birthday message and a radiant infant among perfectly manicured trees and lawns.
