Authorities are investigating a daring burglary that took place on the Windsor Castle estate, raising concerns about security near the residence of Prince and Princess of Wales.
During the robbery, Prince William, Kate Middleton and their children were sleeping at Adelaide Cottage, a cottage within the fortress properties.
Burglary in the grounds of Windsor Castle
The incident occurred on the night of October 13, when two masked intruders broke into Shaw Farm, one of the estate’s working farms, scaling a six-foot fence to gain access.
According to reports, the burglars targeted farm machinery, escaping with a black Isuzu pick-up truck and a red quad bike.
Thames Valley Police stated that the suspects fled through the Old Windsor and Datchet area after crashing through a security barrier, damaging it beyond repair.
A police spokesperson confirmed, “At around 11:45 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, we received a report of burglary at a property on Crown Estate land near the A308 in Windsor.”
The timing of the break-in suggests a calculated plan. Sources indicate the thieves likely observed the property beforehand, ensuring they knew the exact location of the vehicles and the best time to escape undetected.
The breach has also brought renewed attention to security measures in the area. Reports claim that armed police previously stationed at the gate used by the intruders had been removed, potentially leaving the farm more vulnerable.
The Prince and Princess of Wales, both 42, moved to Adelaide Cottage in 2022 to be closer to their children’s school, Lambrook School, located in nearby Ascot.
On the night of the incident, it was a typical Sunday before a school day for Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.
Meanwhile, King Charles III and Queen Camilla were away from Windsor Castle at the time. The king was in Scotland, while the queen was in India preparing for her tour of Australia and Samoa.
As investigations continue, the theft has raised significant questions about the safety of properties within the Windsor Castle estate, particularly given the proximity of the royal family’s home.
No arrests have been made so far, but the investigation is ongoing.
