Camila Cabello didn’t bring an ice queen vibe to the 2024 Met Gala, but her purse sure chilled the air!
Among the fancy outfits at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 6 was Camila Cabello’s unique purse. It was literally a block of ice melting slowly, with a single copper rose inside, just like the one on the Met Gala invitation.
In an interview with Extra, Camila, who’s 27, said her custom Jane Wade purse was supposed to be a normal purse with straps, but it broke. So, she turned it into a melting ice chunk, fitting with the dress code “The Garden of Time” and the theme “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”
“I feel like it is impermanence and things decaying over time and the beauty in that,” she explained, talking about why she carried such a slippery thing.
Her dress, designed by Ludovic de Saint Sernin, had rips in it, which also symbolized the same idea. Even her makeup and wet-looking ponytail, done by Sophia Sinot using L’Orèal Paris products, aimed to show the beauty of things changing over time.
Throughout the night, Camila got asked about her unusual accessory. When told about Doja Cat’s soaking dress by Variety, she humorously said, “The girls are wet tonight — sorry.” Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, she hinted that her upcoming album is themed around “Miami, melting and the heat.”
But Camila wasn’t the only one embracing nature’s elements at the event. Many guests showed up in floral outfits, like co-chairs Jennifer Lopez and Zendaya. Tyla, known for her song “Water,” wore a Balmain gown that looked like sculpted sand. Gabrielle Union stunned in a mermaid-inspired gown by Michael Kors Collection.
