Princess Diana and her children, Princes William and Harry enjoyed a close relationship, being accomplices in situations that were often not very well seen in the Windsor house.

According to former royal family staff members, Diana used to bring her children closer to a normal life like any other child and invite them to eat at McDonald’s on weekends.

Even though the palace’s chefs were available to prepare any meal the children wanted, as well as the nannies ready to cater to all their needs, Princess Diana preferred parenting with a more hands-on approach, which sometimes meant taking Harry and William to eat fast food.

Paul Burrell, Diana’s former butler, recalled in an interview with The Mirror that Saturday nights in the royal house consisted of Big Macs and Blind Date, a famous TV show.

“The three of them would go to McDonald’s for a Big Mac and chips and then sit down to watch Blind Date.”

Burrell wasn’t the only one commenting on Diana’s “special permits,” Darren McGrady, a former chef of the royal family, also confirmed that the princess was out with her children for fast food.

“I remember the princess coming into the kitchen one day and saying, ‘Cancel lunch for the guys, I take them out, I’m going to McDonald’s’ and I said, ‘Oh my God, Your Highness, I can do that, I can make burgers!’

Diana loved her children and wanted them to have as normal a life as possible, so much so that she also allowed them to eat the “treats they wanted”, from the famous fast food chain.
