Harry of Sussex By Lillian Torres

Did Prince Harry go to university? Was he really the way he was portrayed on Netflix’s The Crown?

Did prince Harry go to university
Prince Harry was never known for his good grades in school.

In the last season of The Crown, it was revealed that Prince Harry was not very bright in his studies, but was he really? Did Harry go to college like Prince William?

Harry, the youngest son of King Charles and Princess Diana, did not follow the traditional path of higher education.

The British royal family has not been known for having a high level of education. Neither King Charles nor Queen Elizabeth II completed their university studies.

Prince William, Harry’s older brother, did graduate from St. Andrews University, but with a grade that did not stand out among his peers.

Unlike many young people his age, Harry decided not to go to university after finishing high school. What did he do instead? What was his academic path?

Harry began his education at the age of five at Wetherby School in London, where his older brother also studied.

Two years later, he was transferred to Ludgrove in Berkshire, an all-boys boarding school.

There, Harry did not stand out for being an exemplary pupil. According to some testimonies, he was naughty, rebellious and not very interested in books.

At the age of 14, he entered Eton College, one of the most prestigious in the country, where his ancestors had studied.

However, his academic results were disappointing. After finishing school, Harry took a gap year, which he used to travel and learn about other cultures.

Part of that time was spent in Australia, where he worked on a cattle ranch. Another part was spent in Africa, where he worked with a charity in Lesotho, the small country plagued by poverty and AIDS.

But Harry was not content to be a charity tourist. On his return to the UK in 2004, he made a decision that surprised many: he enrolled in the Military Academy, where he trained as an officer in the British Army.

There he demonstrated his courage and commitment to the defense of his country. He passed all the physical and mental tests required of him and graduated as an ensign in 2006.

Harry did not stay in the barracks. He wanted to actively participate in the military missions assigned to him.

He was deployed twice to Afghanistan, where he fought against the Taliban as part of the air force. In 2008, he rose to the rank of lieutenant and specialized in flying Apache helicopters.

Prince Harry thus opted for a different career than most royals.

He didn’t go to college, but he did go to the battlefield. His military experience served to forge his character and to demonstrate his sense of duty.
