Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has demonstrated her ability to speak Spanish on several occasions.
Although it is not her native tongue, she has impressed many with her fluency in the language.
Her multilingual upbringing has been instrumental in her ability to communicate in different languages.
Meghan attended Immaculate Heart School in Los Angeles, an all-girls Catholic school that emphasized language learning.
There she learned Spanish and French. In addition, her father, Thomas Markle, has spent much of his career working as a cinematographer on television series and films shot in Mexico, giving Meghan the opportunity to visit the country and further practice the language.
Does Meghan Markle speak Spanish?
Meghan learned to speak Spanish during her time in Madrid in 2002 when she was a university student.
Years later, after graduating from Northwestern University with a double major in theater and international relations, Meghan Markle spent time living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she interned at the U.S. Embassy.
This gave her the opportunity to learn the language as part of her professional training, which she has demonstrated in some interviews as a television star.
In Suits, the series in which she played Rachel Zane, there is an entire scene in which she speaks Spanish for more than a minute, which can be found on YouTube.
In 2020, Meghan surprised many by expressing herself perfectly in Spanish during a visit she made with Prince Harry to one of the centers of the Homeboy Industries program, which helps reintegrate into society young people who in the past belonged to street gangs.
“It was quite a surprise, he went from one to the other without thinking. And he said it very well,” Father Greg Boyle, founder of the initiative, told People.
