In the world of royalty, where every gesture and piece of clothing can be a coded message, Prince William’s decision not to wear a wedding ring has generated particular fascination.
Especially now, as rumors of infidelity with Rose Hanbury continue to swirl in the wake of Kate Middleton’s mysterious absence.
Does Prince William wear a wedding ring
Unlike his wife, the Princess of Wales, who proudly wears her engagement and wedding rings, relics with deep sentimental value linked to her mother-in-law, Princess Diana, the Prince of Wales chooses to keep his hands bare.
This decision has been the subject of speculation, especially on social media, where royal watchers have noted the absence of a wedding ring on the prince’s finger.
However, far from being an indication of marital problems or a surreptitious statement, the reason is quite prosaic: Prince William simply chooses not to wear one.
The revelation that the future British monarch would not be wearing a wedding ring was made public shortly before his marriage to Kate Middleton.
During the wedding ceremony at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011, there was no exchange of rings; only William slipped a ring on Kate’s finger, but she did not do the same.
A royal spokesman said at the time that the decision was based on the personal preference of Prince William, who does not like jewelry.
This personal choice was respected within the royal family and is not a departure from tradition, as it is not historically common for British male royals to wear wedding rings.
Royal commentator Eloise Parker has pointed out that while it is common for royal ladies to wear engagement and wedding rings, there is no such custom for men.
On the other hand, Prince Harry, William’s younger brother, chose to wear his wedding ring, demonstrating that even within the same family, personal preference trumps protocol or custom.
Prince William’s lack of a ring is a reflection of his personal taste and should not be interpreted as a symbol of his marital status or commitment to his wife.
Kate’s wedding ring in Mother’s Day photo
Nevertheless, Kate’s decision not to wear a ring in her edited photo sparked thousands of speculations on social media.
In this regard, Sarah Vine, a columnist for the Daily Mail, talked about the controversial edited photo and suggested that something is going on between William and Kate because she is not wearing her usual wedding ring.
“It’s true that she doesn’t always wear the diamond and sapphire engagement ring, for obvious reasons. But her wedding ring? When has the Princess of Wales ever been seen without it?” said Vine.
“All of which makes the absence of that wedding ring in a picture that the Princess has said she spent a lot of time retouching even more troubling.
“It makes it seem almost intentional, a statement in itself. If it’s not there, could it be because she doesn’t want it there? It’s not worth thinking about?.”
