Donald Trump’s recent victory in the U.S. presidential election has once again put Prince Harry at the center of the conversation.
Over the years, Trump has expressed his opinion of Harry and the British royal family, and has even touched on the Duke of Sussex’s immigration status.
Trum has not been shy about stating that he would consider deporting Harry, in the context of the controversy surrounding his U.S. visa.
This conflict is heightened as Harry has been dealing with a legal battle regarding his immigration status.
In his autobiography “Spare,” the prince revealed that he had used illegal drugs, including cocaine, cannabis and psychedelic mushrooms, which could be a significant obstacle to his visa application.
The conservative group Heritage Foundation has been investigating Harry’s visa records, arguing that his drug use could have affected his legal entry into the United States.
Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have made California their home since relinquishing their royal duties in the U.K. in 2020.
What did Trump say about Prince Harry’s deportation?
While Meghan is a U.S. citizen, Harry has faced difficulties obtaining citizenship in his new country.
Trump’s threat to deport Harry first became apparent in February, during his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Oxon Hill, Maryland.
On that occasion, he declared, “I wouldn’t protect him. He betrayed the Queen. That’s unforgivable. He would be on his own.”
Despite his criticism of Harry, Trump has always had kind words for the late queen, whom he described as an “incredible woman.”
In March, Trump reiterated his stance in an interview with Nigel Farage on GB News, suggesting that Harry should not enjoy “special privileges” if he is found to have lied on his visa application.
In his words, “We’ll have to see if they know something about the drugs, and if he lied, they’ll have to take appropriate action,” the Republican said.
When asked if that “appropriate action” might include deportation, Trump responded evasively, “Oh, I don’t know. You’ll have to tell me. You just have to tell me. You would have thought they would have known this a long time ago.”
In addition, Trump has had his complaints about Meghan Markle, whom in May 2023 he called “very disrespectful” to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Just a few weeks ago, a judge had ruled that her visa application must remain confidential, complicating Trump’s attempts to get the duke deported.
Now, with Trump back in power, it will be interesting to see if he takes more drastic action against the Duke of Sussex.
The conflict between British royalty and American politics continues to be a hot topic, and this new chapter promises more surprises.
