The Duchess of Edinburgh, Sophie, is celebrating this Monday, January 20th, and we’re not just talking about any birthday, but her fabulous 60th.
As is customary with the British royal family, some previously unpublished images of Sophie have been shared, full of meaning and details that make this day even more special.
Sophie will celebrate her birthday in the comfort of her home in Bagshot Park, surrounded by her family. But that’s not stopping Buckingham Palace from sharing a new official portrait.
Birthday photos of Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh
Sophie’s birthday photos were taken by the talented photographer Christina Ebenezer, known for her contemporary style that the Duchess wanted to highlight and support.
This talented Nigerian-born artist is an emerging figure in the world of fashion and culture and was selected specifically for this significant event.
“The Duchess of Edinburgh was interested in Ebenezer’s creative style of photography and wanted to support a rising female photographer. As The Duchess looks ahead to turning 60, Her Royal Highness has a renewed sense of excitement and commitment to her work around gender equality and looks forward to further embracing and championing this issue in the years to come,” reads the official statement that accompanied the photos on social media.
The photo shoot took place in early January at her official residence, and the images reveal two looks that highlight her signature style.
In the first photo, Sophie is shown sitting by the window with a big smile.
Prince Edward’s wife is wearing a black turtleneck sweater and a white pleated skirt. This outfit combines a classic look with modern touches.
On the other hand, the second look was photographed outdoors and is a repurposed ensemble that underlines her commitment to sustainability and conscious fashion.
Sophie opted for a cotton and wool jacquard coat by Proenza Schouler, which has a beautiful A-line silhouette, notched collars, and elegant pockets.
This coat had already been seen at the 2023 Commonwealth Day service, so her choice also reflects her conscious spirit.
Complementing the ensemble, the Duchess chose Emilia Wickstead’s Hullinie Cloque pants, in a deep dark green shade that highlights her figure, which she has worn about seven times, and elegant Jimmy Choo Cycas 80 ankle boots in maroon, made from nappa leather.
With their pointed toe and structured design, these ankle boots add a modern and sophisticated touch to the look, as well as being further proof of how Sophie can magnificently reinvent the elements of her closet.
Behind these style choices, there is a clear message: Sophie is not only a key figure in the royal family for her involvement in noble causes, such as sustainability and supporting emerging talent, but she is also an example of how fashion can be a platform for social awareness.
As we have previously reported here on RoyalFamily.news, the Duchess is slowly gaining ground in the British monarchy, having been the favourite daughter-in-law of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
So, on this special day, not only are her life and achievements celebrated, but also her vision and commitment to a more sustainable world.
