Harry of Sussex By Lillian Torres

Everyone is saying the same thing about Prince Harry’s new Netflix show

    13 December, 2024
    Prince Harry's Documentary polo
Prince Harry's documentary on the world of polo was released this week.

A few days ago, the new documentary produced by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle premiered on Netflix.

On December 10, the streaming platform greenlit “POLO,” a documentary that delves into the intriguing world of the elite equestrian sport that Prince Harry has practiced since childhood.

The five-episode series follows some of the best polo players in the world as they prepare for the 2024 U.S. Open Polo Championship, which will be held in Wellington, Florida.

However, despite the high expectations surrounding the release, the reception from audiences and critics has been underwhelming.

    Criticism of Prince Harry’s Documentary

“Polo” has faced discouraging reviews from those who were looking for something more substantial.

While the documentary seemed to have all the ingredients to become a hit on Netflix, the final product seems to have fallen short.

“Polo” received an average of two out of five stars in various media outlets, which have called it “boring.”

According to The New York Post, “‘Polo’ is a mostly boring look at a sport that very few people outside of elite circles have any particular interest in.”

Critic Joel Keller commented that “the first episode was tough to connect with because it presents a world that not only isn’t very relatable to most people, but is boring to boot.”

The Guardian was no less blunt in its assessment, awarding it only two out of five stars and calling the sport “the stupidest and most hateful known to mankind.”

Reviewer Stuart Heritage noted that “‘Polo’ looks destined to fall through the submenus into obscurity at the speed of light. And rightly so.”

Prince Harry’s documentary about the Polo will be released in December.

In a mocking tone, he added that “it’s clattering and niche, and feels like a spoof documentary designed to play on screens in the background of episodes of ‘Succession.’”

Meanwhile, The Telegraph also joined the wave of criticism, claiming that there are not enough appearances by the Sussexes to make this anything more than a “dull indulgence about a rich person’s pursuit.”

Ed Power, in his two-star review, noted that there was “bafflingly little” of Prince Harry in the project.

Despite the complaints, some reviews mentioned that the series could be a good starting point for those wishing to learn more about the sport.
