An alarming scam scheme is taking advantage of Princess Leonor de Borbón’s image on social networks to deceive people, especially in Latin America.
Using fake profiles on platforms such as TikTok and Facebook, the scammers promise financial assistance of up to $100,000, but these never materialize.
Fake Profiles of Princess Leonor
The scheme was exposed by the newspaper El País and, as it has been discovered, the perpetrators use advanced technologies, such as deepfakes and artificial intelligence tools, to make the fraud more credible.
Once the victims interact with the profiles, they are contacted by instant messaging applications, where the deception continues.
A scam that continues to operate
Despite attempts to dismantle this network, the scam is still active. Many of the profiles on TikTok have been deleted, but it is still possible to find similar posts.
The EFE news agency, while investigating the case, pretended to be a victim and managed to confirm that the scammers continue to use the same strategy. They even claimed that Princess Leonor “was helping with $50,000 that week”, while asking for personal information and a previous payment to unlock the supposed benefit.
Warnings to users
It is important to note that Princess Eleanor has no official accounts on social networks such as TikTok or Facebook.
Experts recommend being wary of any offers that ask for personal information or upfront payments. They also urge victims to report these activities and avoid sharing sensitive data online.
