On February 7, 2025, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh continued their official tour of Nepal, marking their third day with a visit to the Godawari Botanical Garden, International Center for Integrated Mountain Development and the Gurkha Welfare Trust Area Welfare Center in Kaski.
The Duke and Duchess immersed themselves in Nepal’s rich natural and cultural heritage. Their first stop was the serene Botanical Gardens at Godawari, where they participated in a symbolic tree-planting ceremony.
They planted a magnolia tree, carefully positioned beside one that Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip had planted during their 1986 visit, underscoring a legacy of enduring ties between the British Royal Family and Nepal.
Continuing their day, the couple toured the ‘Living Mountain Lab’ at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development.
Here, they engaged with experts to learn about the innovative strategies Nepal and the broader Himalayan region are adopting to confront the challenges posed by the climate crisis.
The Duke and Duchess also paid a heartfelt visit to the Gurkha Welfare Trust Area Welfare Centre and Residential Home.
They spent time listening to stories from former Gurkhas and their families, gaining a deeper understanding of the support systems in place for these distinguished veterans and their loved ones.

Accessorizing with Stella McCartney S-Wave sunglasses in brown, Giulia Barela drop small earrings, a Cassandra Goad “Love the Life” quote pendant, and a Missoma Axiom chain bracelet, the Duchess effortlessly combined contemporary fashion with timeless grace, reflecting her distinctive royal style.
