Last Thursday, September 26, the Duchess of Edinburgh attended the long-awaited opening of the Domaine Evremond winery in Chilham, Kent.
The event marked a significant milestone for English sparkling wine, as the vineyard represents the first time a renowned Champagne house has invested in British soil with the goal of crafting top-tier sparkling wine.
During the event, the Duchess had the honor of unveiling a commemorative plaque, which now proudly stands at the vineyard’s entrance.
Founded in 2017 by Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger of Champagne Taittinger and Patrick McGrath of Hatch Mansfield, Domaine Evremond has quickly gained attention for its potential to produce high-quality wine.
Their first edition of the Domaine Evremond ‘Classic Cuvée’ is expected to hit the market in spring 2025, eagerly awaited by wine enthusiasts.

For this special occasion, the Duchess of Edinburgh chose an elegant and polished ensemble. She debuted a stylish plaid Italian wool-blend double-breasted blazer in heritage grey from Vince, along with matching high-rise trousers from the same brand, The set is valued at $1200.
To complement her outfit, Sophie carried a chic ‘Minuit’ clutch in grey by Sophie Habsburg, a favorite accessory she’s used before.
Her choice of footwear added a pop of color to her neutral look, as she opted for the wine-red patent leather ‘Ixia 80’ pumps by Jimmy Choo, worth $950.
As for her jewelry, the Duchess kept it subtle yet refined. She wore the Mini Swank bracelet by Roxanne Assoulin, a repeat piece and the Monica Vinader Corda fine chain friendship bracelet in 18k gold vermeil.
