Fashion coincidences can happen by chance or they could be the reflection of a shared admiration.

In the case of Ivanka Trump and Princess Kate, comparisons have been inevitable, as on more than one occasion both have chosen strikingly similar outfits, generating commentary on whether the daughter of the U.S. president is inspired by the style of Prince William’s wife.

Kate Middleton and Ivanka Trump’s fashion overlaps

The media attention on Ivanka Trump during her father’s presidential inauguration in January 2017 was undeniable.

Among the many outfits she wore to official events, a sophisticated, 1950s-inspired green Dior dress that she wore to the mass prior to the ceremony particularly stood out.

Her choice was immediately reminiscent of the classic and refined looks that Kate Middleton has made her personal hallmark.

But this was not the only occasion in which both have coincided in tastes.

One of the most striking examples is the stunning gold Jenny Packham cape gown the Princess of Wales wore to the world premiere of the film No Time to Die in 2021.

This dazzling design did not go unnoticed and was acclaimed by fashion critics.

Two years later, Ivanka Trump wore the same garment, albeit in an elegant mint green shade, to celebrate her daughter Arabella’s bat mitzvah.

Interestingly, not only has Ivanka replicated Kate’s choices, but the opposite has also happened.

In September 2020, during her father’s presidential campaign, Ivanka opted for a puffed sleeve dress in pastel shades, by Beulah London, model “Sonia”.

Three years later, Kate Middleton appeared with the same garment in a polo tournament in which Prince William was participating, which rekindled the debate about their similar styles.

Another garment in common was a fitted, flared Emilia Wickstead dress with black detailing. Ivanka wore it in June 2019 during an engagement at the U.S. Capitol.

Three years later, Kate Middleton wore the same design to attend a polo match at Windsor.

In addition, Alessandra Rich’s iconic blue dress with white polka dot print is also on this list.

Ivanka chose it in July 2018 for an event in Iowa, while Kate wore it months later to pose for an official portrait for then Prince Charles’ 70th birthday.

The princess was so delighted with the garment that she repeated it in May 2019, reaffirming her predilection for the firm’s designs.

Over the years, these coincidences have given rise to multiple speculations. Is Ivanka Trump a follower of Kate Middleton’s style or do the two simply share similar tastes in fashion?
