At Canterbury Cathedral, something unprecedented happened. Sarah Mullally became the first woman to assume the position of Archbishop of Canterbury, the highest office in the Church of England.

Over 2,000 people attended the ceremony, including Prime Minister Keir Starmer, while the Prince and Princess of Wales represented Charles III in his role as Defender of the Faith.

Princess Kate’s presence was not just a formal gesture. According to the Daily Mail, the Princess found real support in her faith during her cancer treatment, so her attendance today had a personal significance that went beyond the official calendar.

What Kate Middleton wore at Canterbury Cathedral

Kate’s outfit was the kind that people scrutinize with a magnifying glass. She chose the ‘Washington’ coat by Suzannah, a piece that already bears the ‘Princess of Wales’ label in her honor.

Made from a blend of virgin wool and cashmere, the coat features a semi-fitted midi cut, black silk satin trims, and a double-breasted design with faux horn buttons.

Inspired by a vintage hunting coat, she paired it with her black Ralph Lauren Celia pumps and a matching black Chanel mini flap bag.

The detail that sparked the most conversation was her Juliette Botterill straw boater hat, featuring a houndstooth pattern in black and ivory. But Cassandra Goad’s earrings deserve their own paragraph.

They are the Cavolfiore earrings, inspired by the stems of a blooming cauliflower, featuring a cluster of seven pearls and small diamonds. Kate has worn them many times now. When a piece survives that level of turnover, it means it really works.
